My second breast surgery was to improve the symmetry and overall appearance of my breasts. Over time I had developed scar tissue in my non cancerous breasts. The tissue was large and hard enough to affect the appearance of my breasts. My breasts do appear normal to any general onlookers if I am wearing clothing or a bathing suit. However, the skin had a protruding area in the center, there are no nipples, and the sizes are slightly different. My breasts are two different colors and one has more scaring than the other. My surgeon wants to address these issues for my emotional and social health.

This surgery begins with my surgeon staring at my naked chest. He draws some lines on me and off I go. I usually bring a rosary with me. I pray and hold it until the very last minute. The nurses gives me Emend before surgery. This diminishes my post surgical sickness like nausea and vomiting. I believe it helps me to recovery faster.

The breast reconstruction surgery is in and out procedure. To correct the appearance of my breasts my plastic surgeon does fat grafts which is a medical term for lipo suction. The surgeon takes fat from the fattiest part of your body and uses it to build new breasts. I get lipo suction from my lower abdomen area. I get surgery incisions on my breasts and abdomen.

Recovery is a slow process. Recovery time will be about 3 – 8 weeks. I have incisions in my abdomen and my chest is pretty bruised and sore. At this point, soreness in my chest area is less because the nerves in my breasts have be cut. I have no sensation in parts of my arm, my under arm, both breasts and the entire area surrounding the scar on my abdomen.  I am pretty exhausted from the procedure and I don’t feel like doing much. In a few days  I can shower without supervision and heat up my own meals.  Overall my breasts are looking much better than they ever have.

Hindsight is that this surgery is completely cosmetic. Lipsocution is painful. The bruisingis deep and if given another opportunity I would not have this reconstructive surgery at all.
